We could have garbage pickup and save money

Editor, The News:

Why do we not have a garbage pickup like municipalities around us?

I know you have stated in the local paper that our taxes will go up, but the output for expenses in my household will go down.

The average household in Maple Ridge has a bill of about $600 a year for garbage pickup, going to the transfer station and paying for recycling services.

Pitt Meadows gets all of this for a cost of about $18 a month on their taxes.

Pitt residents pay about $218 a year for this on their tax bills.

So the people in Maple Ridge would save about $382 a year in their pockets to spend.

Since we already pay $75 on our taxes, for an additional $143, we could have the same service as our neighbours.

In fact, given economies of scale, this might even be cheaper.
