So long garbage, wood smoke whiners
Editor, The News:
I moved to Maple Ridge 12 years ago and was surprised that we did not have garbage collection, only recycling. What a great concept, I thought, and was very pleased to participate.
I recycle everything that I can; I have a garden compost and we do not waste food. As a result, I only get one full garbage can every three months, which I take to work with me to dispose of. I have zero household garbage cost, and even if I went to the dump, the annual fee would be $40.
I read all the comments by people saying we should have municipal garbage collection and all pay $300-plus a year for this service. What is wrong with these people? There are private contractors that will do this service for them.
Why should I pay hundreds more to offset their garbage bills when they should cut down on waste and help the environment?
Maybe if making a phone call to get a contractor is too difficult for these people, they should move to where it is done for them. And while they are going, take the people who complain about the wood-burning stoves and smells from the farms with them.
