I noticed the note regarding the slippery slope of assisted suicide. Nobody should treat the subject lightly, I agree.  I do, however, support the move in that direction, especially as I get closer to that end of my time on earth.  There are many potential pitfalls in most ethical issues like this, but I believe that cautious, thoughtful legislation could minimize the risk.  I really don’t see the population agreeing to suicide panels, as have sometimes been described. I would also hate for these fears to result in more painful and degrading situations.  We can’t always control pain or loss of physical or mental dignity.  It would be nice if there were a compassionate alternative for these few situations.
