Midget girls down PoCo 8-3
With the playoffs fast approaching, the Ridge Meadows Burrards midget girls’ lacrosse squad came away with a much-needed win over rival Port Coquitlam on Father’s Day, defeating their league rivals 8-3 to move up the midget girls’ standings.
The Burrards were led by Sierra LaForge, who recorded a hat trick in the win, while Megan Michaud scored her first goal of the year. Kiana Henry also had a strong game, adding two assists.
The win capped a busy week for the midget girls’ Burrards that saw them shut out New Westminster 1 by a score of 3-0 last Tuesday, before losing 3-2 to Port Moody on Thursday and tying New Westminster 2 on Saturday, 3-3.
Georgia Hamm, Ellen Harrison, Ciarra Currin, Marlo Bellamy, Brittany Irvine, and goalie Regan Eaton each had standout performances.
In the junior B men’s West Coast Junior Lacrosse League, the Ridge Meadows Burrards beat the North Shore Eagles 7-5 at home last Wednesday to improve to 8-1-5 for 17 points and fifth place in the 10-team league.
The Burrards took and early 4-2 lead in the first period and were able to stay ahead of the Eagles for the final two periods, never relinquishing the lead.
Leading the team in points this season is the trio of Scott Hegedus, Charlie Sallstrom and Brenden Kidd. Hegedus leads the team in goals with 22, and points, with 29. Sallstrom has 28 points this season (15 goals, 13 assists), while Kidd has 27 (12 goals, 15 assists).
The intermediate A Maple Ridge Burrards of the B.C. Intermediate Lacrosse League were victorious over the Port Coquitlam Saints Monday night, trouncing their rivals on the other side of the Pitt River by a score of 13-8.
The Burrards are tied for fourth in the 10-team league with a 7-4 record, good for 14 points in 11 games. Joe Olson leads the team in points with 53 (15 goals, 38 assists) after just 11 games.
Leading the team in scoring is attacker James Baker, who with 30 goals in 10 games, has averaged a hat-trick every outing this season.
In midget A1 play, the Ridge Meadows Burrards blanked the Delta Islanders 9-0 at home on Friday. The Burrards are fourth in their nine-team league, with nine wins and seven losses.
In tyke and mini-tyke play, Addison Sessions, Jaime Thomson, Luke Christenson, and Brendan Mower each received MVP honours.
