Pacific Cup Regatta comes to Whonnock Lake this weekend
The Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club is hosting the Pacific Cup Regatta this weekend at Whonnock Lake in Maple Ridge.
The two-day canoeing and kayak competition features elite-level athletes from across B.C., as well as from clubs in Alberta and Washington State.
The Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club is the largest competitive canoe club in the province and is a breeding ground for the next generation of Canadian Olympians.
Flatwater canoeing and kayaking are both Olympic sports, and this year three Canadians medaled at the London Summer Games in those events. Competitors from this weekend’s events may end up competing for Team Canada one day.
The regatta takes place Sept. 29 and 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, and is free to attend.
