Flames split, home for two
The Ridge Meadows Flames split a weekend set of games, falling 5-1 to the Pilots in Abbotsford on Friday, then shutting out the Black Panthers 3-0 on Saturday in Port Moody.
Flames goaltender Wesley McLeod was pelted with 18 shots in the first period of Friday’s game, and was chased from the game after allowing three goals.
Robert Bruni was solid the rest of the way, stopping 25 of 27 shots.
He picked up the pace as the starter the next night, making 34 saves for a shutout win over the hapless Panthers.
Travis Oddy, Alexander Smith and Matthew Bissett scored for Ridge in the win. Bissett has 10 goals through the first 19 games of the PIJHL season, and is the team scoring leader with 15 points.
The Flames are 7-9-2-2, and have a pair of home games to try and draw even on the season.
On Friday at 7:30 p.m. they take on the Aldergrove Kodiaks, a 10-10 team that beat the Flames twice early in the season, and on Saturday they face the Pilots at 7:45 p.m. Both games are at Planet Ice.
