Maple Ridge's Jeremy Hansma wins third volleyball gold medal of the year.
Jeremy Hansma put up a block that won his team a provincial championship.
The Maple Ridge volleyball standout attends school at Langley Christian, which boasted the second-ranked double A volleyball squad in B.C. entering the provincial tournament in Kelowna last week.
Early in the tournament they beat the top-ranked MEI Eagles, last year’s provincial champions, and found their way into the final where they beat Duchess Park (Prince George).
Hansma, a six-foot-two Grade 11, plays middle and stands out for his outstanding hitting and blocking. He went up alone to get the winning block, and was instantly swarmed by his teammates.
Collecting a high school championship in Kelowna garnered him his third gold medal in an outstanding season of volleyball
Hansma also plays for the Fraser Valley Volleyball Club, and he won gold at the provincial championship and at the nationals in the under-16 division.
