Flames beat Pilots, face Ice Hawks Friday

The Ridge Meadows Flames avenged last Friday’s 9-2 blowout loss in Abbotsford by putting a 7-3 hurt on the Pilots on Wednesday night at Planet Ice.

The Pilots, tops in the Harold Brittain Conference with a sterling 26-9-2-0 record, led 3-2 after the first period. But their game was derailed by a string of penalties – five minors and four majors for misconduct in the second period alone.

“Our team needs to play an aggressive style, and we have a chance to win every night,” observed Andrew Ileander, owner of the Ridge franchise in the PIJHL.

“The Pilots got frustrated in the second period, took stupid penalties, and we capitalized.”

Travis Oddy led the scoring with a four-point night – all assists. Michael Nolan and Matt Bissett each had two goals and an assist, Adam Bartsch scored twice and Connor Redmond had a goal and an assist.

Ileander his team get a convincing win over a frontrunning club.

“Our boys are pumped right now – and it’s a good time to get hot,” he said, noting there are just eight games left in the 44-game schedule before playoffs begin. The Flames are 13-17-4-2.

The have another tough test in the Delta Ice Hawks (26-8-1-2) tonight at Planet Ice, at 7:30 p.m.
