High school hoops post-season play tips off
This week, local high school basketball squads are battling their way through their respective Fraser Valley tournaments, trying to win their spots into the provincial championships.
The Maple Ridge Ramblers senior girls basketball squad opened the Triple A Fraser Valley tourney with a convincing 75-35 victory over Chilliwack on Monday.
They played their second-round game last night (Tuesday) against the tough MEI Eagles. Results of that contest were not known by deadline.
Double A Girls: Pitt Meadows lost 58-48 to Surrey Christian on Thursday.
On Wednesday (Today) they will face their second-round opponent, G.W. Graham, at 3 p.m. at D.W. Poppy. The tournament final is scheduled for Saturday.
Double A Boys: On Friday, Samuel Robert Technical (SRT) opened their tournament with a loss to Langley Christian 61-36, while Thomas Haney lost 81-71 to G.W. Graham.
On Wednesday, SRT faces Mission at 6:30 p.m., and Haney faces Pacific Academy at 8:15 p.m. Both games will be played at Langley Christian.
Single A Boys: Maple Ridge Christian takes on Credo Christian on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Saint John Brebeuf secondary in Abbotsford.
Junior Girls: SRT beat Fleetwood Park 34-26 on Monday, and they will advance to second round action against the W.J. Mouat Hawks Wednesday at 5 p.m., at Mouat, in Abbotsford.
In other first-round action, the Ramblers lost to Elgin Park 44-32, and Thomas Haney lost to Riverside 59-18. Both of those local schools were eliminated.
Junior Boys: The Pitt Meadows Marauders opener the Valleys with a 56-25 win over the Rick Hansen Hurricanes on Monday at Pitt.
Today the Marauders play their second game against the Holy Cross Crusaders, at Pitt Meadows. If they win, their next action will be Thursday, 5 p.m., at Walnut Grove.
SRT lost their tournament opener to Walnut Grove 53-16, and Thomas Haney was also eliminated from the tournament after a 64-20 loss to Fleetwood Park.
Grade 8 Fraser Valley tournament action began last night.
