Hometown Heroes tourney caps hockey season
One of the major local minor hockey events of the year wrapped up the 2012-2013 season in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows over the weekend.
The annual Hometown Hero tournament saw 47 teams competing, including eight rep teams from the Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association.
The locals were welcoming hosts – handing out most of the hardware to their guests.
Two of the three pee wee teams played for tournament championships.
In the pee wee tournament, Ridge Meadows A2 came sixth out of seven teams in its division. New Westminister beat Campell River 4-1 in the final.
Ridge Meadows pee wee A3 team finished in second place in a three-team pool, then in the semi-final defeated Prince George 4-1. The Rustlers, however, fell in the final, 3-2 against Burnaby.
The Ridge Meadows pee wee A4s won their three-team pool, then downed Kamloops 7-2 in the semi-final. They lost in the final, though, 4-3 to Langley.
In the Bantam tournament, the Ridge Meadows A2s finished third in their division, and Terrace beat Comox 2-1 in the final.
The Ridge Meadows bantam A3s won their three-team pool, but lost in the semi-finals 6-2 to Nanaimo. Cowichan beat Nanaimo 5-4 to win the division.
In the midget tournament, the Ridge Meadows A2s finished third in their pool, and Calgary beat Wenatchee 4-2 in the final.
The Ridge Meadows midget A3s finished last in their three-team pool, and their tourney was won by Saanich, 5-2 over Nanaimo.
And the Ridge Meadows midget A4s finished third after pool play in a five-team tournament. Cowichan defeated Burnaby 5-2 in the final.
