Burrards' Superman wins gold with Team Canada at World Field Lacrosse Championship

Maple Ridge Burrard Curtis ‘Superman’ Dickson was a big part of Team Canada winning a world field lacrosse championship on Saturday in Colorado.

Dickson scored 18 goals in seven games and was named to the All-World tournament team as an attacking player.

He had a goal in the final on Saturday, as Canada defeated Team USA 8-5 in front of 12,000 fans in Commerce City, Colorado. Canada had lost to the U.S. 10-7 in its tournament opener.

Dickson has been absent from the local Western Lacrosse Association team for the much of this season as he prepared for and played in the world championships.

In the semi-final game, Dickson came up huge. ‘Superman,’ as he is called with the NLL Calgary Roughnecks, had a natural hat trick in the third quarter, then scored a fourth in the final two minutes as Team Canada downed the Iroquois Nationals 12-6 on Thursday.

He was forced to sit out much of the final game with an injury, but will be dressed when the Burrards are in Langley tonight.

Canada had also won the world crown in 1978 and 2006.
