Masaro takes lead in Golden Ears Masters curling

Angelo Masaro’s pressure-laden final shot proved to be the winner as his rink curled to a narrow 7-6 victory over Earl King

Angelo Masaro’s pressure-laden final shot proved to be the winner as his rink curled to a narrow 7-6 victory over Earl King in Haney Master’s Curling action at Golden Ears Winter Club.

With King’s rink leading 6-5 going into the final end, and with their rock counting, Masaro raised his rock to tap back one of Kings’ rocks to take two points for the win.

Led by lead Melvin Zemliak, second Bob Cocking and third Chris Martin, King took an early 6-3 lead only to see Masaro’s rink snatch the victory in the last two ends. As a result, the Masaro rink improved their record to 7-1 and took sole possession of first-place.

Other curling action saw Andy Ferguson’s rink of Max Albrechtsen (third), Ed Belsey (second) and Clifford Wells (lead) gain ground on the leaders as they improved their record to 6-1 with an easy win over Ed Desjardins. Gary Sawatsky fell into third-place as he suffered his second consecutive loss after beginning the season with six straight wins.
