Maple Ridge teen wrestles his way to silver at Summer Games

Tyson Deane-Freeman won silver in his weight class

Bodies were being thrown left and right at the BC Summer Games as hundreds of teens went head to head in wrestling in a variety of divisions.

Maple Ridge's own Tyson Deane-Freeman was one of those many wrestlers, and even though he had wrestled at plenty of other provincial tournaments, he had never been to the BC Summer Games before.

"This was awesome," said Deane-Freeman. "It's really fun and I've made a bunch of memories."

One of the memories he made was getting handed the silver medal for his weight class, which was especially significant for Deane-Freeman considering he moved up a weight class just before the Summer Games.

"To get second in the weight class higher than what I'm used to is pretty cool," he said.

That wasn't the only medal of the tournament to go to a local either, with the bronze in the mixed duel division going to Zone 3, which included Deane-Freeman, as well as other Maple Ridge wrestlers Linden Sinow-Horton, Khaim Christianson-Barker, Sophia Stark, Zahara Adomi, and Bella Berner.
