Vancouver dating giant PlentyOfFish has been sold to the American 'The Match Group' for $575 million, pending federal approval.

The company – which was founded in 2003 in B.C. by CEO Markus Frind – now joins an envelope of online love-seeking services that includes Match.com, Tinder, and OKCupid.

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with Match," Frind said Tuesday, in a news release. "My team and I have grown PlentyOfFish into one of the leaders in our category, and I am confident that Match will help accelerate our growth even further."

PlentyOfFish says it currently has over 90 million registered users and is available increasingly across the globe, in five languages. It quotes itself as having 55,000 new sign-ups every day, and says 80 per cent of its usage takes place via mobile phone.

"For over a decade I have followed the consistent growth of PlentyOfFish, first within North America, then globally, and most recently across platforms, as one of the most popular mobile dating products in the world," said Sam Yagan, CEO of The Match Group, in the same news release.

"PlentyOfFish's addition both brings new members into our family of products and deepens the lifetime relationship we have with our users across our portfolio. I look forward to working closely with Markus and extending the company's impressive growth trajectory."

More to come, probably...
