Thousands of local residents have dogs, and lavish their four-legged companions with love, treats, costumes, beds, toys, and so much more.
For many of them, they also enjoy frequent visits together to area dog parks. But when asked what local park is the best, News readers say there a few that top the list.
During the 2024 A-List competition, a record number of residents of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows shared their favourites around town – from restaurants to bookstores, plumbers to charities. There was also a category where they could select their favourite dog parks, and three stood out and made the shortlist.
The Harris Road dikes offer kilometre after kilometre of scenic river views that the whole family is sure to enjoy. Furry companions are welcome on the trail system, and can even have some freedom to explore nature in the designated off-leash section of the dikes, which extend south to McQuarrie Road and north to the trail end just before Pitt River Quarries.
Jerry Sulina Park is another extremely popular local dike system that offers an off-leash space. Nestled just south of the Alouette River at the corner of 131 Avenue and 210 Street, this rural park has plenty of water access, with the trail system bordering a marsh area and providing clear views of the Golden Ears mountains. The fields of tall grass are sure to bring out the playful side of dogs and their owners alike.
And tucked away amongst the natural beauty of the Silver Valley neighbourhood, Maple Ridge Upper Park is one of the most-attended dog parks in the city. Canines of all sizes can be found frolicking in this off-leash park, with separate fenced areas for large dogs and small dogs. An agility course located in the middle of the park will put each dog's skills to the test, while the owners can relax and enjoy the private beauty of the secluded park while they watch their furry friends run about. And if dog owners feel like getting in a bit of a walk, the equally popular Maple Ridge Park is only about a kilometre down the road, with a scenic walking trail that runs along Alouette River linking the two parks together.
