Local artists will show work that captures importance of water.

Photos, paintings and poems are just some of the ways to pay homage to our life giving water.

Fraser Voice, Watershed Watch Salmon Society’s Fraser Valley outreach project, is hosting a community gathering focusing on art and all that inspires an appreciation for water in Maple Ridge and the surrounding communities.

The event will take place on World Water Day,  this Saturday (March 22), from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alouette River Management Society’s River’s Heritage Center in Allco Park in Maple Ridge.

The show is called Our Home Waters and highlights local artists inspired by our waters in beautiful Maple Ridge. Maple Ridge artists’ Galina Cooper and Kristin Krimmel will showcase paintings inspired by the Alouette watershed.

Visitors can draw from all the inspiration the day has to offer and provide creative ideas towards a community water art project. There will also be an open-mic session where everyone is welcome to bring their poetry, spoken word or songs inspired by water and nature.

Canada Water Week events are held from coast-to-coast-to-coast in the third week of March.

Refreshments provided and donations will be accepted to cover costs of this public gathering.
