In honour of Valentine’s Day seniors in the community are being invited to a free, fun-filled online get together to share stories of the great loves of their lives.

The Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie Community Response Network, (CRN), a subcommittee of the Seniors Network, is hosting the gathering to bring seniors together for an afternoon of fun and laughter.

“The first months of the year can be a dark and lonely time for some people,” explained network chair Judith Macrae.

“We thought we’d throw a fun event to bring seniors together and celebrate the power of love in these difficult times,” she said.

The love of someone’s life doesn’t necessarily have to be a spouse – their love could be a pet, their job, or a hobby, or something they are passionate about, noted Macrae.

Participants can expect questions about their funniest dating moments, blind dates, and the worst Valentine’s Day gifts they ever received.

During the afternoon there will be prizes, trivia, jokes, and a guarantee for lots of laughs.

Macrae noted that the goal of the CRN is to help educate the community about the resources and supports available to anyone who may be experiencing abuse; to connect older adults who might be in an abusive situation with finding help; and to build relationships in the community to support folks in need.

“Social isolation has been identified as the leading contributing factor to an increase in risk. With this unprecedented time of social isolation and stresses with COVID-19, our committee created this event as a way to safely come together for an afternoon,” she said.

The event is taking place from 1-3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14.

Participants will be able to join in on Zoom using their computer or call in by phone.
