City of Pitt Meadows is hosting an Open Art Studio this year, and will be offering the studio space twice a month to aspiring and experienced artists, free of cost.

The city is welcoming artists from beginners to those more experienced and passionate about visual arts, or those who want to work, learn, share and engage with other like-minded people in the community, to attend the free drop-in Open art Studio sessions at the South Bonson Community Centre. The next open art session is on Feb. 16 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the one after that is on Mar. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A full timetable of the sessions, can be found on: pittmeadows.ca/openartstudio.

There is limited space, for up to 12 artists per session and one per table.

Those attending will have to bring their own supplies and won’t be able to share with others as a safety precaution against COVID-19. While tables and chairs will be provided, since the sessions are self-led drop-in, set-up or tear down and clean-up will have to be done by participants.

The Open Art Studio will also feature an artist for each quarter throughout the year. Featured artists will begin each session with a one-hour workshop followed by two hours of open studio time where the artist will remain in attendance to answer questions and give constructive feedback and suggestions.

Each workshop will be on a specific topic or a technique and will be for all skill levels. The city is now looking for experienced instructors and professional visual artists to be one of the Featured Artists for February, May, August and November.
