Concert to highlight emerging rock talent in Maple Ridge

Four rock bands will be taking to the stage playing songs from bands like Weezer, Rage Against the Machine, Tom Cochrane, and Journey

Maple Ridge Secondary School is presenting a live music extravaganza highlighting talent at the school.

Four bands will be taking to the stage for 'Live Music Event' next week including: Milkweed, Same Weight Class, Mold Spore, and Jupiters Moons.

"The bands are made up of students from grades 9-12 who are in the Rock Band class," explained the new band director at the school Tim Burns.

"They have made small combos that include drums, bass, rhythm and lead guitars and some even have a piano in the group," he said.

The groups will be playing songs from bands like Weezer, Rage Against the Machine to Tom Cochrane, and Journey.

Some songs do have explicit language, warned Burns, advising the concert is more for those 14 years and over.

Admission is $5 per ticket and money will be going towards new music equipment for the school.
"We have this amazing rock band class but have no guitar pedals.  This is similar to a chemistry class that does not have any beakers. We are needing guitar pedals which would include a chorus pedal, distortion pedal, wah pedal, pitch-shifter pedal, and a fuzz pedal," said Burns.

The concert will be held in the choir room or room 1215 at the school at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 21911 122 Ave., Maple Ridge.
