Anyone undertaking yard work this long Thanksgiving weekend will be able to set out their branches for the city's brush chipping program.
For residents in single family homes who live west of 224 Street they can set out branches for brush chipping on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and for those who live east of 224 Street, their set-out date is Monday, Oct. 28.
Residents who participate can set out a total volume of three cubic meters of tree and shrub branches. Branches can be up to 15 centimetres in diameter.
Chippers will spend no more than 20 minutes at each household.
The set-out dates are when brush chipping begins in each area, but, Ridge Meadows Recycling Society wants to remind residents that it will take around two weeks to pick up all the piles in each area, depending on the amount that is set out.
They are also reminding people that the program is for brush and branches only. Dirt, rocks, leaves, branches with thorns, or grass, will not be accepted.
Items placed at the curb that are not covered by the program or excess volume of material will not be picked up.
The purpose of this program is to provide an alternative to burning this material.
No pre-registraion is required for the program.
The Ridge Meadows Recycling Society administers the program in partnership with the City of Maple Ridge.
