Drink, eat, salute Mother Earth

“Cheers to the Planet: Eat, Drink and be Eco” is an evening in aid of the Community Education on Environment and Development Centre.

Drink wine and sample local food while helping out a local group Saturday.

“Cheers to the Planet: Eat, Drink and be Eco” is an evening in aid of the Community Education on Environment and Development Centre. It is one of the major fundraisers for the centre on 223rd Street, just off Lougheed Highway.

Patrons will be able to savour the samples from seven local wineries, a local micro brewery, as well as finger food creations from the top chefs in town.

Tickets are $45 online, $50 at the door.

All proceeds will go toward the centre and its programs.

The restaurants and wineries provide their products for free to the centre,

“We’re trying to provide local food,” said Christian Cowley, with the centre. “It lets people celebrate being green.”

All of the participating businesses promote local, sustainable and organic products, a strategy which makes good business sense because products taste better and usually cost less.

Music and a silent auction with more than 100 items will be part of the event, which starts at 6 p.m. at Meadowridge School, 12224 – 240th St.
