The day started off with bagpipes, featured singing by the choral society, spotlighted the therapeutic benefits of music, then wrapped with karaoke.
It was the annual Power of Music educational forum held Saturday at the Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre, and it attracted 140 participants and some 25 volunteers together to be immersed in the world of music for several hours.
Funded by a federal government New Horizons for Seniors grant, the education day delves into a variety of topics each year.
And in addition to talking about subjects such as the benefits of music to those living with dementia, and connecting and creating communities through rhythm, the event also feature a keynote speech from BC's new seniors advocate Dan Levitt, addressing some of the key issues facing the older population of people in this province today.
