A special dinner is being held in Maple Ridge for anyone who would like the company of others on Christmas Eve.
Planning is already underway for the 27th annual Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Christmas Haven, a free evening filled with entertainment, accompanied by a traditional turkey dinner, and a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Last year around 325 attended the event, about 60 more than in 2022.
It was well attended by seniors, families, and singles, said Christmas Haven committee chair Alyson Cuthbertson, noting that reservations are not required, people can simply stop by to enjoy the night.
This year Cuthbertson is excited to announce that local restaurateur Tyler Towe of Humble Roots Cafe will be catering the event.
There will also be six different musical and dancing acts, and local entertainer Norden the Magician will also be returning.
Face painting or other activities for children are being planned as well.
The night is run by volunteers, many of whom have been returning to help out year after year.
Cuthbertson said the event is for anyone who wants to spend the night with others – those who are new to the community or to the country, unhoused, or anyone who might otherwise find themselves alone on that night.
A committee of eight people have been meeting since June to plan out the event, she said.
Cuthbertson is looking forward to seeing familiar faces again this year.
"It just provides an opportunity for people to come out and enjoy Christmas dinner in a festive way," Cuthbertson said.
Christmas Haven takes place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at The ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place, downtown Maple Ridge.
