Explore gel plate monoprinting in Maple Ridge

Singular/Serial: Contemporary Monoprinting will be at the ACT until Saturday, Feb. 19

An exhibition featuring four artists at the ACT Art Gallery explores the possibilities of gel plate monoprinting.

The exhibition called Singular/Serial: Contemporary Monoprinting showcases the work of Jennifer Love, Jen Drysdale, Greta Guzek and Kim LaFave.

Each artist in the group has a distinct, individual style and each has explored the artistic features of monoprinting using a gel plate as an important element in their unique artistic processes.

The gel plate is making a resurgence as an essential tool that can help create multiple unique prints from the same plate, said a description of the show on the gallery’s website.

Prints may be spontaneously executed with no preliminary sketches, but may also involve elaborate planning.

“The making of a hand-pulled print adds, in its process, an extra excitement to the final artwork,” read the description.

A free tour and demonstration will be taking place on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and Feb. 15, that will show how each artist uses a Gelli Plate to achieve different outcomes.

Local artist Philippa Glossop will also be demonstrating techniques to create one-of-a-kind prints with acrylic paints, hand-made templates and a variety of tools to create texture.

Tours will be taking place from 10-11:15 a.m. each Tuesday. Those interested must register to attend.

The show itself runs until Saturday, Feb. 19. Due to current pandemic protocols, entry to the exhibit is through free timed tickets.

The gallery is open from 10-3 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
