Award winning singer/songwriter Bruce Coughlan will be taking to the stage at this years GETIfest.

Coughlan has just come off a trip from Atlanta, Georgia, where he he received the International Singer-Songwriters Association Award for International Male Vocalist of the Year.
He has been a well-known local performer for 50 years and heads the band Tiller's Folly.

Coughlan recorded his first LP in 1984, and since then he has recorded 14 albums of original and adapted traditional music across a broad range of the roots music genre. Coughlan is well known for his historically based ballads, written on Pacific Canadian themes.

In celebration of Maple Ridge's 150th anniversary, Coughlan has written historical songs about the community.

This year, Coughlan began making, what he calls, ‘Songumentaries”. The first one recounted the life of Maple Ridge pioneer Samuel Robertson.

Maple Ridge’s annual GETIfest features dozens of local organizations and exhibitors, centred around building community by educating and involving people in solutions to social and environmental issues.
"In recognition of Maple Ridge’s 150th anniversary, the music stage at this year’s GETIfest is focused on songs which communicate the past and current experiences of local people", explained organizer Steve Ranta.

GETIfest is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Memorial Peace Park, downtown Maple Ridge.
