May is here. Surely the sun is out and the flowers are blooming by now. And the Maple Ridge Public Library is a great place to pick up a gardening book or the newest and hottest summer read.

While you’re here, take a look at our fresh new programming this month.

• Teens: do you know about our Teen Advisory Group? As a member, you organize library programs for teens, volunteer as reading buddies and help with other events. Meetings are fun and always include snacks.

TAG membership looks great on your resumes and college applications. Volunteer hours are granted for all TAG activities. If you’re interested, or haven’t been to a meeting in awhile, join us for the last meeting of the school year on Wednesday, May 17 from, 7-8:30 p.m.

• Parents: doing some spring cleaning and looking to donate some old Lego, the Maple Ridge library is gratefully accepting Lego donations. May’s Lego Club will be held Friday, May 19, from 3-4 p.m.

• On Monday, May 15, join us for Baby Playdate. This hands-on event will teach parents and caregivers how to play with their baby or toddler and encourage early literacy at the same time. Discover how to use inexpensive everyday items for creative, interactive play. Come to play and leave with ideas to try at home. This program is best suited for babies and toddlers who are under two years old.

• Every Monday in May, from 2-3 p.m. (closed Monday May 24), bring your tablet, laptop, eReader and questions for Drop-in Tech Help – a practical, hands-on session with library staff are designed to help customers solve problems or learn new programs and techniques on their own devices or on library computers.

• The Maple Ridge Ukulele Circle will meet Sunday May 28, from 2-4:00 p.m. Bring your ukulele or other stringed instrument to the library for an afternoon of learning and fun. All skill levels from beginner to experienced welcome.

• For more information on these and other programs, check out the events section on our website at fvrl.bc.ca or contact 604-467-7417.
