Recreational cyclists will be able to pedal from Pitt Meadows to Maple Ridge sometime this year thanks to $50,000 from Bike B.C., money matched by the parks and leisure services commission.
The money will allow the Hammond Trail bike path to be carved through the grass and bush from Airport Way in the south Bonson area of Pitt Meadows, underneath Golden Ears Bridge, to Hammond, in south Maple Ridge.
Liberal MLAs, Marc Dalton and Doug Bing made the announcement earlier this week.
“With this investment, members of our community can enjoy cycling to work and for leisure,” Dalton said in a release.
“Cycling is excellent for physical activity in the great outdoors. It improves our health and quality of life.
“Funding toward the pathway will help provide more opportunities for families to get active in our community,” added Bing.
Since 2001, the B.C. government has committed more than $150 million to improving cycling infrastructure, creating new bicycle lanes and trails in more than 90 communities.
