The Harris Road outdoor pool has opened its doors again for the summer after repairs were recently completed stop water from leaking.

Thirty-five people turned out on Canada Day to mark the annual opening of the 66-year-old pool.

Repairs took place over the winter and were completed this past April. Pool decks were excavated, water pipes were replaced and concrete blocks and the pool tank were sealed.

Last year, the pool was leaking 25,000 litres of water a day, which made it difficult to maintain a moderate water temperature.

“We are quite pleased with the fix,” said Kelly Swift, general manager or parks and recreation.

“When you’re pulling apart something old, you might be in for some surprises. But they were minimal.”

Around 4,500 people use the pool during a typical season, depending on weather, Swift added. “Hopefully, we’re in for a lot of sun.”

The Harris Road Pool is open Monday to Sunday, 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., including statutory holidays.
