The Ridge Meadows Recycling Society want to remind residents about their upcoming hours for the holidays.
There will be no curbside blue box pickup in Maple Ridge on Wednesday, Dec. 25, Thursday, Dec. 26, and on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.
The Recycling Depot will also be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, and closing early at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
And after Christmas is the busiest time at the depot and residents should be prepared for lineups during peak hours.
Staff are asking people to pre-sort their recycling to save time. Gift wrap paper – only – is accepted at the depot. So all bows, ribbons, and non-paper decorations should be removed.
"These items are not recyclable, so consider leaving them off, saving them to use next year, or using reusable or sustainable alternatives," advised the society.
Gift wrap can also be put in the 'All Paper and Cardboard' yellow bag or apartment bin.
Starting Jan. 1, the Maple Ridge curbside and apartment recycling collection will be changing from the recycling society to Recycle BC.
Recycle BC has contracted Remple Disposal to collect curbside recycling for single-family homes and Waste Control Services for multi-family residences.
The recycling depot accepts more than 200 items, including cell phones, electronics, appliances, and computers, in addition to Styrofoam, cardboard, and plastic packaging.
