People helped out atthe KEY Club’s Santa Claus party at Garibaldi secondary on Saturday.

More than 100 children from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows got to meet Santa on Saturday before he began his trip around the world.

The Kiwanis Club of Golden Ears and Garibaldi secondary’s KEY (Kiwanis Educating Youth) Club joined forces to host the special Christmas party for families who use the Friends in Need Food Bank.

The school collected toys for children, the school band played Christmas carols, there was a magician and a Tumble Bus, which featured a mobile gym.

This is the first year the Kiwanis have hosted a KEY club at Garibaldi secondary and Kiwanis’ president John Cowan couldn’t be more pleased with what the 35-student members achieved.

“They’ve done a lot,” he said.

Key Club International is a high school organization sponsored by Kiwanis International and assists it in serving the community – cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives.
