Lightning split a tree on a residential property in the 25000-block of 102nd Avenue in Maple Ridge on Saturday. The tree is about 150 feet tall. The property is owned by Marlow Kirkwood. His cousin Sharon Anderson was standing at the front gate, about 250 feet away from the tree, when the lightning hit and she said she felt the electricity.

"You can't fully understand the power unless you actually see the results with your own eyes," Kirkwood said.
