Tim Michalchuk passed through Maple Ridge on Thursday as part of his walk from Prince George to Vancouver to raise awareness and money for Multiple Sclerosis.

His wife, Shannon Dickson, has the disease.

Michalchuk started his walk April 2, with his final stop being at the University of British Columbia Hospital, where Shannon has an appointment.

She needs stem cell therapy outside of Canada. He is hoping to raise between $45,000 and $60,000.

“The potential for the procedure is to stop it in its tracks,” said Michalchuk.

"And if anything was to happen that would cause another relapse, she might get to a point where trying to get her back from it is pointless,” he said, adding that he would like their two children to have a mother.

Michalchuk has started a Go Fund Me page called ‘A Million Steps’ to raise money. So far he has raised $9,301.
