The Maple Ridge Community Foundation is planning to hold the Citizen of the Year Awards in April, 2025.

The Maple Ridge Community Foundation has postponed the 2023 Citizen of the Year Awards until April, 2025.

Initially the awards were supposed to take place in April of this year but were postponed until September and now they have been postponed again.

Angela Dundas, vice president of the foundation, said they made the hard decision to move the awards again because there was conflict with other charities holding their awards galas in September and October as well.

"We just didn't want to over-inundate people," Dundas explained.

Dundas noted that the Citizen of the Year Awards were always held in April and that they would be, "going back to their grass roots."

Online the foundation noted that the decision to move the awards gala again wasn't an easy one to make and that they understood how disappointing the decision would be to many in the community.
"However, our priority is to ensure that the evening meets the high standards our community deserves. Organizing an event of this magnitude involves many moving parts, and by giving ourselves this additional time, we can guarantee a memorable occasion that truly honours our outstanding citizens."

Dundas said the foundation has not made a definitive decision about how many awards they will be handing out next year, but they will be handed out during a gala at Meadow Gardens Golf Club.

Tickets already purchased will be honoured at the door, or refunded if desired.

Ticket sales for the upcoming April, 2025 event will begin in the new year, when they will be announcing the new date.
