Maple Ridge resident inspiring a global movement of laughter

Treena Innes attempting to gather 150 people from around the globe to share 150 consecutive laughs—live and online

A Maple Ridge resident is attempting a world record of laughter.

Treena Innes is attempting to gather 150 people from around the globe to share 150 consecutive laughs — both live and online.

On Saturday, July 12, Innes will be launching her new podcast, "The Finding Fun Experiment: Cracking your Code to Health and Wellness," during which she will be hosting “Laughter Around the World: The Record-Breaking Laugh Session”.

The podcast will explore how people across cultures, generations, and communities are prioritizing zest, joy, and “fun health”, Innes' term for the positive impact of fun on mental health and well-being. It will also reveal what people gain when they prioritize fun—and what happens when they don’t.

The laugh session will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. and Innes is looking for people to take part.

“My vision is to inspire a world-wide fun movement—where fun is a must-have in our lives, not just a nice-to-have—because it’s essential for our health. I call it Fun Health,” explained Innes, who is the executive director of the Ridge Meadows Division of Family Practice, and also an author, speaker, workplace wellness advocate, and founder of Mind Doodles, a platform promoting the power of play, laughter, and intentional fun.

“When we make fun a daily habit, science shows it lowers stress and anxiety and boosts our vitality—just to name a few wellness perks. Through this podcast, we’re exploring how people across cultures, communities, and countries are living with more laughter, play, and joy—so we can all bring that vibrancy into our own lives.”

Each participant will receive a 15-minute window to join virtually or in person and record their 20-second laugh, which will be featured in the first episode of the podcast.

Special Guests will include: Jodi Wellman, founder of Four Thousand Mondays; and Marc Cordon, founder of The Joy Revolution.

Episodes of the podcast will include: Making the Fun Rules After 50; Scandinavia Keeps Crushing the World Happiness Game; The Doctor’s Prescription: More Fun, Less Stress; Impact & Play: Can Women Changing the World Still Make Time for Fun?; Colourful Colombia: Vibrancy That Outshines the Past.

The podcast will be recorded at the Speak Easy Podcast Studio in Langley.
