Students at Albion Elementary have been working hard to help the hungry in Maple Ridge.
More than 1,666 non-perishable food items and $300 in cash donations were raised by students for the Friends In Need Food Bank.
Classes competed against one another to raise the most food and money with the top primary class being Amanda Cawker’s Grade 2/3 class and the top intermediate class, Stephanie Downes Grade 6/7 class, said principal Tanya Dailey.
The classes both received trophies.
Downes' class organized the drive.
Mary Robson, executive director of the food bank, noted the food items weighed a total 1,080 pounds.
"We are always amazed what the schools do in food drives and raising funds for the Friends In Need," said Robson.
"All the funds raised by the schools go to support the school meal and snack program. There are many schools in the district organizing food drives and kudos to the students at Albion Elementary for caring and sharing," Robson added.
