The mayors of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge are now among the thousands of Canadians who've received commemorative medals to mark the 60th anniversary Queen Elizabeth 2's accession to the throne.
Pitt Meadows Mayor Deb Walters (above) and Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin were selected by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for contributions they've made to their communities.
"Your peers in local government across the country admire your accomplishments as a community leader, and congratulate you on earning this prestigious award," said FCM president Karen Leibovici.
Walters shared the accolade with her colleagues and city staff.
"It really does take the staff and council to do what we do here. It's wonderful to be recognize," she said.
"I'm humbled and honoured," Daykin said Thursday.
"I don't know if I'm going to go out and make a lot of hoopla about it."
It is nice to be acknowledged, though, he added, given the flack you get some days.
In November, Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission MP Randy Kamp bestowed 17 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to people who've helped build the area.
