The inaugural Paint for Pets will be taking place at The Well.

The evening will feature a painting lesson of a dog and cat gazing into the sunset, as well as a silent auction and toonie-toss.

The money will go to help with the costs of medical needs for animals at the branch.

“We are seeing a lot of animals that are older with rotting teeth or severe orthopedic issues that require veterinary care,” explained Jenn Stack, branch manager.

For example, Benson, a three-and-a-half-year-old French bulldog, requires an expensive surgery.

“He has some issues with his back legs, and it gets quite complicated, but it ends up being about a $1,200 surgery with discounts from our very supportive veterinarians,” said Stack.

He also has degenerative bone disease in his back, and food allergies, all of which are controlled with a special diet, treats and pain medications.

Paint for Pets takes place at 7 p.m. on April 19 at The Well, 22710 Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

• Tickets are $47.50 a person and can be purchased in person at the Maple Ridge B.C. SPCA, 1235 Jackson Road or online at paintnite.com/events/_1172145. For more information, call 604-463-9511 or email jstack@spca.bc.ca.
