PHOTOS: Maple Ridge dances its way into Diwali

Nearly 700 people celebrated the festival of lights on Oct. 26

The ACT was transformed into a colourful display of Diwali decor on Saturday as hundreds of people stopped by to help celebrate the festival of lights.

Hosted by the Ridge Meadows South Asian Cultural Society, this event featured a wide variety of musical performances, Asian food, and other cultural fun.

Cultural society president Simmi Khanna said that the switch over to The ACT this year was a huge success, with quite the crowd showing up for the festival.

"We were absolutely thrilled to see an impressive turnout of 650 to 700 attendees, including esteemed politicians from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, all joining together to celebrate our vibrant culture," said Khanna.

In addition to a ton of dancing, the event also featured several new additional activities to delight the audience, including new vendors and food trucks.

"The array of entertainment offered truly captivated our audience and enriched the experience," said Khanna. "Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Kevin MacLeod and Darlene Slevin from the City of Maple Ridge for their unwavering support, which played a vital role in the success of this event."

Khanna said that without the hard work of all of the society's board of directors and the support from the event sponsors, the Diwali celebration would not have been able to be such a big hit.

"As we look ahead, we are excited to continue celebrating and sharing our rich culture with the community."
