PHOTOS: Maple Ridge park gets splash of colour for Pride in the Park event

Carrie Dawn, Scarlett Rose, Jaylene Tyme, and Justin Abit all did drag performances

All shades of the rainbow were on full display at Memorial Peace Park last Saturday as PLEA Community Services Society of BC helped kick off the annual Pride in the Park celebration.

In addition to a wide variety of food and entertainment booths from local organizations, the event also included a live drag show featuring local performers.

Carrie Dawn, who hails from Maple Ridge, stunned the audience in her realistic Taylor Swift outfit as she danced along to Swift’s hit song Karma.

“Celebrating diversity and inclusion is such a beautiful thing, and I’m so glad that we have all-ages Pride events like this so that everyone can show their support and love together,” said Dawn.

Fellow drag performers Scarlett Rose, Jaylene Tyme, and Justin Abit also entertained the crowd with their own routines and incredibly bright costumes.

“The visibility of every person’s culture and identity is really important because there’s power in our unity,” said Tyme.

The MC for the event was David C Jones, who held drag trivia contests in-between sets of drag performances.

At the end of the event, Dawn was joined by several of the attendees at the newly painted Pride crosswalk to film a dance routine for TikTok.
