Pitt Meadows Day is coming up this Saturday, June 3, and one of the highlights, and the big kickoff, is a parade that brings dancers, music, floats, and a massive community waterfight.

With the parade comes road closures, on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until parade spectators clear the route afterward, at approximately 1 p.m. The closures will be in effect on Harris Road between Hammond and McMyn Roads. There will also be closures on Hammond Road, from Blakely to Harris.

This closure will impact all streets that lead to Harris Road, and the public is asked to plan accordingly and use alternate routes.

The parade starts at 11 a.m.

The waterfight pits the Pitt Meadows fire department and other emergency responders against the children and big kids from the community. This is a squirt gun fight, which sees some innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. The city is asking that water balloons not be brought, as they pose a risk for people with mobility issues, can cause injury, and deflated balloons are bad for the environment.

People start lining up at 8 a.m. in their lawn chairs to get a good spot on the parade route. The 82nd annual Pitt Meadows Day parade draws thousands of people along the route, to see the likes of Homer Simpson and Star Wars storm troopers, mixed in with the local flavour of made-in-Pitt Meadows floats and entries.

There will be shuttles running to Harris Road Park this year from 1 to 8 p.m., with two shuttles running every 15-30 minutes. The shuttle stops are:

• Cefa at Meadowtown Mall (19800 Lougheed Hwy #115)

• Pitt Meadows Athletic Park (11431 Bonson Road)

• Pitt Meadows Family Rec Centre (12027 Harris Road)

• Harris Road Park (off of 124 Avenue off Davison)
