Politicians, police and others support McHappy Day in Maple Ridge

Annual event raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy has been working the drive-thru window at McDonald's in Maple Ridge, and Ridge Meadows RCMP officers serving meals to customers, as part of McHappy Day.

The annual fundraiser is taking place on Thursday, May 8, and the goal for the store at Lougheed Highway and 228th Street is $12,000 for the day.  A portion of every order contributes to the cause, and raises money for Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.

The campaign is underway across Canada, and there are also McHappy Day socks and other merchandise for sale at local McDonald's restaurants, with proceeds going to the children's charities and the Ronald McDonald House.

Last year's event raised a best-ever $8.9 million across Canada, and that put the annual event at more than $100 million raised since the first event in Canada in 1977.

The 16 Ronald McDonald House locations provide out-of-town families with a home to stay at while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 18 Ronald McDonald Family Room programs provide a comfortable place for families to rest and recharge, right inside hospitals.
