Hammond Treasure Days is back and set to coincide with Celebrate Earth Day this year.
The event was first started in 2015, by Hammond resident James Rowley.
"Hammond Treasure Days is when people who have stuff they don't need, put it out on the curb on the same weekend so we can tool around the neighbourhood treasure hunting," he explained online.
"We often see stuff put out with a 'free' sign on it. Treasure Days just means more people are out looking and there's a better chance of picking up something you can really use," he added.
The event takes place Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27. All Hammond residents have to do is put their unwanted items that are in good condition on the curb, clearly label them as free, and remove any items that are not part of the Treasure Days hunt so there will be no misunderstandings.
Any items still remaining must be removed from the curb by Sunday at 7 p.m.. Items that are left will be subject to enforcement by Municipal By-Laws.
This year Hammond Treasure Days is joining forces with the Family Freecycle, that takes place during the Celebrate Earth Day festival in Memorial Peace Park.
Donations of gently used books, clothes, and toys can be dropped off a day before the Earth Day festival on Friday, April 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in front of the Leisure Centre.
All items collected will be sorted into sizes and categories and set out on tables in the Leisure Centre. Then they will be given away at the Earth Day event the following day.
"This further encourages everyone to declutter their homes and reduce waste," said Rowley.
"We live in an abundant society – most people have too much 'stuff' and are more than happy to give it away," he added, encouraging people to declutter their homes and find something new to you.
Celebrate Earth Day takes place from 10-2 pm. on Saturday, April 26, in Memorial Peace Park, along 224 Street, downtown Maple Ridge.
The first Haney Farmer's Market of the year will be taking place in the park in addition to festival activities like the Family Freecycle, a food truck festival, an electronic vehicle display, a repair cafe, a Cycle Recycle free bike draw, a Kids Play Zone, a display by the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour, and more.
There will also be live stage entertainment and roving entertainers.
The theme this year is 'Stories' and this year the Maple Ridge Public Library and the Maple Ridge Museum will be highlighted since both specialize in sharing and connecting the community.
