An afternoon of trivia to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Maple Ridge is being held at the Maple Ridge Public Library.

An afternoon of trivia to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Maple Ridge is being put on by the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie, Seniors Network.

The event will be hosted by former City of Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin, who is currently president of the board of directors for the seniors network.

He said the event won't be all about trivia, but there will be story telling as well.

Daykin has hosted many a trivia night for various charities and has already collected a number of old photos, aerial photos, maps, and historical books, which he intends to bring to this event . And, he is hoping others will do the same, to inspire conversations about the history of the community.

As an example of questions Daykin will be asking, he asked why the king of Siam once came down the north side of the Fraser River.

To:

• A – visit Golden Ears Provincial Park

• B – to use a flush toilet;

• C – to pick up some salmon;

• D – to buy strawberries.

The answer, chuckled Daykin, is that he needed to use the flush toilet, and apparently Solomon Mussallem was the only person on the north side of the river who had one.

Daykin is hoping to have a lot of fun, share some stories about the community, and to get ready for the upcoming 150th anniversary of the City of Maple Ridge.

The trivia afternoon will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Fraser Room at the Maple Ridge Public Library,

No registration is necessary. Everyone is welcome to drop in.

Refreshments will be provided.

The Seniors Network is a non-profit, community planning table led by seniors for seniors. Members include community-minded seniors, service providers, non-profit organizations, businesses, service clubs, and representatives from various levels of government, who work in collaboration with each other and the community in order to improve the health and well-being of seniors in all three communities.
