Chipping is just one of the recycling centre's spring programs.

It's going to be a busy couple of months at Ridge Meadows Recycling.

In addition to Easter weekend holiday hours, upcoming events include the Spring Brush Chipping Program, the society's annual general meeting on April 5, Life After School Transition (LAST) committee’s transition resource fair on April 12, and Earth Day on April 23.

The recycling society will also be at the Ridge Meadows Home Show, April 29-May 1.

There will be no curbside recycling pickup on Good Friday, March 25, or Easter Monday, March 28.

The recycling depot will be closed Good Friday, but open Easter Monday.

With Easter coming  earlier this year, the set-out dates for the City of Maple Ridge’s Spring Brush Chipping Program are earlier, too.

Set-out deadlines are Tuesday, March 29 for residents who live west of 224th Street, and Monday, April 11 for residents living east of 224th Street.

No pre-registration is necessary, just place branches at curbside by set-out deadlines for pickup and chipping.

See rmrecycling.org for details regarding set-out.

This year, the society's AGM is at The Well, inside Chances Gaming Centre, Tuesday, April 5 starting at 6:30 p.m.

Current and new members are welcome for a brief business meeting followed by refreshments and mingling.

Ridge Meadows Recycling is a member of Life After School Transition (LAST), a group of service providers that work to ease the transition from high school for students with extra support needs, their families, and caregivers.

On Tuesday, April 12, starting at 7 p.m., the LAST committee is hosting a Transition Resource Fair at Thomas Haney secondary, where representatives from different agencies and service providers covering continuing education, employment, health, and recreational services will be on hand to provide information.

For more information or a list of participating agencies, visit  lastcommittee.org or email Dennis_Lacroix@sd42.ca.

Plans are well underway for this year’s Celebrate Earth Day event on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Memorial Peace Park, celebrating the theme "ENERGY.”

It will feature many activities, including a special Haney Farmers Market, the Food Truck Festival, and “Human Recharging Stations,” throughout the site in addition to arts, crafts, performers, the Family Freecycle, HUB’s Cycle Recycle, and VEVA’s Electric Vehicle Display. Entries are now being accepted for the Celebrate Earth Day photo and poetry contests, sponsored by the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows News. Win a special screening of “The Lorax” for the school that submits the most entries.
