If the sunny weather stays, Sept. 30 is the day to go to the river and join in Ridge Meadows Rivers Day at Allco Park.

The family event, at the north end of 248th Street, goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features entertainment, a barbecue, nature walks through Allco Park and interactive displays with local groups.

And just as important, Rivers Day will recognize the work that’s taken place over the past year, in particular, those of the Adopt-A-Stream program which just completed its first year.

More than 50 volunteers have helped clean up, do water quality testing, remove invasive plants and mark storm drains, along Tributary 2, McKenney Creek, Golden Pond, and Morse Creek.

“Ridge Meadows Rivers Day will be an opportunity for those who have already adopted streams in their neighbourhoods to share their experiences with the rest of the community and perhaps inspire others to adopt streams of their own,” says a release from the Alouette River Management Society.

Rivers Day is celebrated around B.C. and around the world.
