Selfies the trend at Haney Farmers Market

Haney Farmer Market shoppers are not just looking for the freshest produce when selecting their groceries.

These market enthusiasts can be counted among the top two market contestants of the Farmers Market Selfie Contest with 30 of 259 entries coming from Haney. The only market to beat Haney was Kamloops with 39 entries.

Haney Market Manager Eileen Dwillies said she and her staff tried to make entering easy for residents.

“We setup a selfie help booth, looked after by volunteers, at the market,” Dwillies explained.

Among those who entered selfies were herself and Maple Ridge Mayor Ernie Daykin.

The province currently has 125 farmers’ markets.

This weekend, the Haney Farmers Market’s hosts its annual Zucchini Race between 10 a.m. and noon.  Bring your own Zucchini ‘car’ and enjoy a race on their special track.

On Aug. 2, the Gourmet Grannies are preparing pancakes with blueberry syrup for their annual fundraiser.  Join them for a sweet snack between 10 and noon.

Dwillies says it’s the perfect time to gorge yourself on the colours of summer while fruits and vegetables are in full season, ripe and juicy.  The Haney Farmers Market in Memorial Peace Park on 224th in downtown Maple Ridge between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
