Office of the Seniors Advocate of B.C. wants to better understand access to long-term care for seniors.

Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie, Seniors Network is asking the community, to take a caregiver survey put out by the Office of the Seniors Advocate of B.C..

Seniors' access to long-term care is being reviewed by the provincial office in order to better understand long-term care supply and demand issues – including challenges with wait times for seniors in the province.

"We want to hear from family caregivers about their experiences helping a family member access publicly-funded long-term care to inform the review and recommendations to government," the provincial office online.

The Office of the Seniors Advocate of B.C defines long-term care as services for people with complex care needs who can’t live safely in their own home or in assisted living and require 24-hour nursing care and support.

In B.C., noted the agency, there are both publicly-funded and private-pay long-term care homes.

They especially want to hear from people who are a caregiver supporting a family member who is currently waitlisted for a publicly-funded long-term care bed, or
was previously waitlisted and has been admitted to long-term care in the last year.

Those who participate can skip any questions they do not wish to answer and they can save their progress and return to the survey at any time.

The Survey takes between five and 15 minutes to complete and all responses are confidential.

Responses will be grouped together and summarized.

The survey is open until Tuesday, March 4.
