Sunday brings an opportunity for people who want to get active in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows to do one-stop-shopping.

The Interactive Sports Expos is coming up at the Pitt Meadows Arena and Athletic Park, offering a chance to discover the variety of sports and fitness opportunities available around town. The event will run from noon to 4 p.m.

This is the third year the event has run, and organizer Perry Bateson said the goal is simply to increase participation in sports in both communities.

It is a showcase event, meaning people get a chance to play, and there will be 18 different sports represented, including archery, frisbee golf, gymnastics, ringette, tennis and lacrosse.

“We try to get as many sports organizations as we can coming out,” said Bateson.

Guest Speaker Tom Walker will be talking at 11 a.m. about how communities and sport organizations can work together to define common goals.

Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Any proceeds from the event go to Kidsport – an organization that helps children with financial barriers to playing organized sports.
