Walk in memory of Chelsey Tober takes place this Sunday in Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge.

Belinda Tober wants to get out the message, that mental illness hurts and harms families.

So she's organizing a walk to make that point this Sunday, May 1, at 6 p.m. in Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge.

Belinda lost her daughter Chelsey to mental illness.

"Please join us for the walk in memory of Chels and the many other loved ones lost to mental health. Come together to raise awareness and funds for youth struggling with mental health in Maple Ridge," Belinda Tober says on Facebook announcing the Youth Mental Health Walk in Memory of Chelsey Tober.

People can also bring a balloon in a colour that is meaningful to them which they can release at the end of the event.

Donations also will be accepted to raise money for the Ridge Meadows Youth Wellness Centre. Money can also be donated online at canadahelps.org.

Local doctors, community services and a volunteer action team are trying to raise enought money so that a youth mental health clinic can open for a year in the Greg Moore Youth Centre across from Maple Ridge city hall.

The evening will include stories and music by hip-hop artist Trevor Mills at 7 p.m. His CD is directed towards the issue of mental health.

Parking is available in underground parking beneath the bandstand in Memorial Peace Park.
