Tickets are now on sale for the uPlan Youth Tank, where young entrepreneurs in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, or Katzie First Nation, pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win thousands of dollars.

The 10 finalists, aged 14- to 24-years-old, will be pitching their ideas to a panel of three expert judges: Carter Hugill, Tyler Westover, and Taryn Stephenson – for a chance to win up to $10,000 to invest in their new business.

Hugill is a long time uPlan member who is currently studying computer engineering at the University of Ottawa. He founded his own website design company in 2020 and is also a high level sprint kayaker.

Westover is the director of economic development for the City of Maple Ridge. Not only has he experience in a wide range of business areas and industry sectors, but a key interest of his is working with youth who are interested in entrepreneurship.

Stephenson is a graduate of B.C. Institute of Technology’s broadcast program and is the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Award for Excellence winner. She is the co-founder of Once Upon A Tea Leaf, downtown Maple Ridge, and dedicates a lot of her time to supporting the community.

The event is inspired by the popular television shows Dragon’s Den in Canada, or Shark Tank in the United States and will feature a series of dynamic speakers, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities.
